The 9pm tips are a deterrent
I live near Atlanta..I went to the VMI game in November b/c I was up for the UNC game. I routinely come up to one or two January/February basketball games as well.
If I still lived in the NRV, with the family and job I have, unless it was a top tier team I wouldn't do many 9pm tips especially when they're on TV. And TV is the reason the game is 9pm anyway.
I grew up in the Moir era, and remember Raycom having most if not all home/road Metro games and you could watch locally on WSLS. I seem to recall there being blackouts in those days unless there was a sellout. But those weeknight games were always 7pm or 730pm. Maybe occassionally an 8pm tip. And I would go with my Dad still when I could, b/c I wanted to see Dell, or Beecher, or Bimbo in person.
Point being yes if were consistently better, and likely to win most of our home games, and I lived there, I would attend more regardless of TV. I guess I can't fault dads and sons not doing many Wednesday 9pm games because of school the next day. It'd have to be Duke or Carolina or UVA or someone.
