Must have been a brain fart to vote to self impose $50+ million exit fee

When you're ready to leave in a heart beat, making it harder on yourself doesn't make a lot of sense. You're thinking Florida State. They voted against the exit fee, and part of their alumni community is enamoured with the SEC. Much of their complaint is travel and local flavor of the opponents so it might make sense looking at another deep south option if the ACC expands.

Clemson is very happy with life right now. They are the only school in their state with a realistic chance of ever making a New Years Six bowl game and/or playoff. They love watching South Carolina play the role of SEC doormat in football forever. There is no reason to make any change. They like occasional games with the SEC, and Georgia and Auburn will play them from time to time in Death Valley. Life is good at Clemson. In all honesty, it would actually help South Carolina to come back to the ACC. But I doubt Clemson would let them back in.
