I think we agree 99%

The G5 and P5 designation is actually obsolete with recent advents in the CFP proposed format. It was an administrative term fostered by the NCAA through unanimous vote of the ten conferences to sort out the FBS and FCS divisions.

But, with the new format coming into place, the power brokers shift a bit. The Big 2 conferences now, Big Ten and SEC are setting the agenda and their opinions are all that really matter. The next step down are the Medium Three conferences ACC, Big-12 and Pac-12. The Big-2 use those three to majority vote their viewpoint when the Big Ten and SEC see things differently. Then we have the Small 2, AAC (for now) and MWC and then the final Little Three, CUSA, MAC and Sunbelt. There is a lot of shifting going on in those ranks right now due to the tsunami started in July by Texas and Oklahoma.

The ultimate power broker is going to be Anti-Trust Laws and they will be used to protect the interests of the smaller 5 conferences in the new CFP set up. Even if the NCAA were to die some erosive death and drop coverage over Division, US Law is not going away.

At the end of the day, if we are to go to a double digit sized playoff, all ten of those conferences have to have automatic bids. I would propose that this year's seeding is determined by the final rank in the AP of last years representative for a conference.

The final AP Poll rankings for each of the conference champions were:

1 - SEC Alabama
2 - BIG Ohio State
3 - ACC Clemson
6 - B12 Oklahoma
8 - AAC Cincinnati
14 - SUN Coastal Carolina
21 - P12 USC
23 - MAC Ball State
24 - MWC San Jose State
Unranked - CUSA UAB

Those would be seeds 1-10 for this year and would be occupied by the conference from that conference regardless of record or current ranking. You will note there are no independents on the list, I assumed in this new world coming faster than we imagine those independents will need to accept a seat at the table or be left out.

I then assumed we needed a 16 team field and we already have seeds 1 through 10. I then assumed the committee would step in and use the final poll taken after the conference championships games were played through the regular season. It would be a selection Sunday like they do in basketball. At this point, most would assume that the SEC and Big Ten would hog the remaining slots but I would insert a 1 additional representative only. So, the committee would look at each of the ten conferences and find the best unselected team and form a pool of ten teams - one from each conference. They would then select 6 of them and rank them by quality and those would be seeds 11 through 16. Because it is a given that seeds 11 through 15 are going to be traditional P5 schools, possibly with a better record than their conference champion, that team that bothers you so much at 8-5, might not be the one who wins for the ACC. The final slot would be the best of the G5 that deserves to get in.

Obviously, the format is 1 vs 16, 2 vs 15 and so on.

Once round one was complete, and the winners and losers were known from the round. THEN the bowls would get their teams.

The first 8 seeds host the seeds of 9 through 16. The 8 victors move in pairs to the Four Major Bowls Hosting the Play Off - Fiesta, Orange, Rose and Sugar

The eight teams that lost would then be placed in bowls as host teams by the affiliation. It would be a way to give a those teams a way to end on a high note even though they were knocked out of the national picture. These teams would go to the first bowl in their conference affiliation list. Then the rest of the bowl field would be slotted based on contract and convention.
