I get the ESPN factor. However, if the P5s wants the support of the


G5s in order to pass their proposal, then I am not sure ESPN is a strong enough supporting point. Hence why I used the word "deserved" instead of "earned." Both groups know that if the P5s threatened to create their own playoffs, then it is most likely a bluff. It is possible, maybe even likely, a P5 Playoff could violate federal antitrust laws. If the P5s decide to go through with the bluff, then they are putting their other sports at risk. In order for the P5s to do it, they would have to pick 1 of 2 options:

1. Form a brand new division level within the NCAA; or
2. Leave the NCAA and form a brand new association.

Both groups know that the P5s don't have enough DI support to create a third DI subdivision for football because that would require a majority support from either a NCAA committee which is made up of P5, G5, DI-FCS, and DI non-football school reps or majority support from the DI-FBS and DI-FCS schools. Unfortunately, the NCAA bylaws aren't exactly clear on which path the voting process would take. If the P5s want to bring a motion to the floor to get football to be treated differently, then it will probably require support from all 3 NCAA division levels. Also, there is a risk that treating football differently could violate Title IX.
