But why is a 8-5 P5 champion more "deserving" of that automatic bid


over a 12-1, 11-2, 10-3, 9-4, or even 8-5 G5 champion? The comment is in reference to a proposal floating out there where all 5 P5 conferences would receive an automatic bid to the CFP, but only the highest ranked G5 champion would receive an automatic bid regardless if the field is 8 or 12 teams.

My point is if all 5 P5 conferences are going to receive an automatic bid to the Playoffs, then all 5 G5 conferences should receive the same consideration. Now if it is decided that the Top 6 ranked conference champions should receive an automatic bid to the CFP, then that is different because neither group (G5 or P5) is perceived to be given an advantage in the new system.
