I realize the lower perception of the bottom of the G5
Is that they do not matter, but I think we lose something if we see them rot away, after all, we do we get our new coaches from?
The whole point of putting all 5 of the G5 instead of 1 is that these four conferences would each get a full share of the participation money, currently valued at 66 million. This money is all these schools will ever see and if their conference splits it evenly in a 12-team conference they each have 5 million to work with. It is not taking much from the traditional conferences either as those 4 slots would be filled with P5 teams and they are supposed to get a mere 6 million each. Make ESPN pay, it is their money we are spending and the P5 conferences get to host a grateful team, have a good time and 99% of the time check off the winner box. Much has been lost in college football these last few decades, I think this would be a way to hold on to a bit of it.
