...I would recommend he take a Java class (or two) before enrolling at VT. That puts him ahead of the curve, and having a handle on Java will put him a leg up on the competition.

Frankly I would also have him audit Principles of Accounting class at his local CC. Once again, to put him ahead of his peers.
