Yep, definitely on the right track there...
Nolley has the physical tools necessary that if you put him up against a similarly sized individual, he would hold his own. Nolley, however, never had any interest in learning the other aspects away from the ball, so he was always a liability.
To make it fairly simple, having the measurements and athleticism allows you to make a play should you need to. Having the positional awareness keeps you from needing to make the play, it deters actions from happening just by your positioning.
To give a football example, you could have a super athletic free safety who may not be in the right spot, but if the ball is thrown his way he can cover up ground quicker or you can have a free safety who understands all the assignments and prevents the pass from coming that way to begin with.
I would much rather have guys like Cattoor who will know where to be which can prevent the play rather than someone who is constantly needing to showcase their athleticism due to defensive breakdowns. Eventually youre not going to be the most talented guy on the floor and youre just going to get exposed
