You're right, I was thinking of it as more of a 1-on-1 thing, but it is much more important, as you said, to know how you fit into what the entire team is trying to do defensively. I can see how that would tie up a guy's feet once he starts thinking about rotation, ball screens, etc.
As a coach, do you have that conversation when you are recruiting Lynn Kidd? Do you tell them that they have a lot of work to do defensively, but that you will work to make them a lot better in that area? Or do you just get them signed and on campus and then talk about their deficiencies?
