In real life you NEVER point a gun at something you don't want to shoot
whether it is loaded or not - so that's a false scenario.
The way movie making is done, you do point a gun at things you don't REALLY want to shoot.
Regardless, if he was properly trained it wouldn't have happened and he bears that responsibility - he would have checked the gun - you don't delegate that if you are the one pulling the trigger.
Why was there live ammo on set? - a WHOLE different question....
