Economies of scale


It's far more efficient (both generation and pollution) for fewer large power stations to charge a bunch of batteries to move cars than it is for many more small internal combustion engines to do the same.

Mining for materials, disposal of old batteries, etc ... are problems of their own. Are they worse than the status quo? Or are today's EVs imperfect improvements that are a necessary step along the way to even cleaner, more efficient energy and transportation?
