C-USA will probably need to do that anyways if it wants to keep

its automatic bids for the various NCAA tournaments.

Given that the Sun Belt has 2 non-football schools (ARL-Little Rock and UT-Arlington), a 16 member conference for the other sports may be better than a 14 member conference. Also, if you look at the football membership in both conferences, then it may make it easier to divide the divisions by 7 than 6 even when factoring in the AAC's quirk (aka Navy being a member in the West Division even though geography says Navy should be in the East Division).
