I am not sure that much would change about the ACC's national reputation in football. The reality is that the ACC has too many private schools and/or public schools with either a small fan base and/or a low national interest in football. BC, Syracuse, Pitt, UVA, maybe UNC, maybe NC State, Duke, Wake, maybe L'ville, and GT could be undefeated and ranked #1 in the nation right now and I am not sure the national interest in ACC football would change all that much. The ACC built its reputation as a basketball first conference and that is how the majority of the national audience views the ACC during football season.

Now if Clemson, FSU, Miami, and VT were all undefeated and/or ranked in the Top 15, then you would see the needle move. I don't think VT by itself would move the needle that much because VT is not a blue blood and I don't believe has ever been close to becoming a blue blood. The national audience seems to care about the blue bloods and maybe Cinderella stories (i.e. Boise State, UCF, Cincy, etc). VT was a Cinderella story back in the 1990s, but not anymore. Besides, a program can only milk a Cinderella story for only so long before the national audience loses interest and moves on to someone else.
