There's a significant difference between the 15 and 30 yard line.
It impacts playcalling and makes a difference in the field position game. Imagine the other team punts from their 30 yard line and rather than fair catch the ball at our 30 yard line (that would be a 40 yard punt), our returner lets it roll down to our 15 yard line (that's a 55 yard punt). Then, let's say we go three and out and only pick up 3 yards on our possession. We're now punting from our 18 yard line. If THEIR punt returner actually makes a fair catch on a similar 40 yard punt, they now take over at their 42 yard line. That's a HUGE field position swing just based on fair catching/fielding a punt and letting it roll.
Starting their drive with such good field position opens up their playbook and requires fewer productive plays to get into the scoring area of the field. So it matters a lot.
I get it. Our offense sucks and you're basically ranting about how bad the offense is rather than making a serious point about field position (or at least I hope that's the case) -- but field position does matter, a lot.
