I’m not arguing about Fuente, but disagree with your chatacterization

of recruitment in general. Sure, it’s the job of the coach to recruit — but the place to which one is recruiting sort of matters as well.

Which is easier to recruit the best and brightest students to: Harvard or Mississippi State?

If Harvard has better students, does that mean the recruiting coordinator at Mississippi State isn’t doing her job? Not necessarily.

Recruiting talent gets a lot easier when you have hot co-eds, great weather, a cool town, amazing facilities, rabid fan support, easy academics, and frequent hundred dollar handshakes from boosters.

So it may be the job of the head coach to recruit, but if recruiting isn’t up to expectations, there are plenty of potential causal variables besides just “coach can’t recruit.”

Again, I’m making a broader point and not just talking about Fuente.

Hence, my comment about Les Miles and Ed O. Miles is a moron and won a natty. It wasn’t because of his coaching prowess.
