ACC has really fallen...
Only 4 teams in the top 25. The ACC would historically get 4+ teams in the top 25 when they had just had 8 members. Now there are 15, with so many schools having rich basketball traditions.
Simply mind boggling none of the following teams are able to crack the top 25 pre-season in 2021, considering they achieved the following high rankings in the past 10 years:
LOUISVILLE - Ranked #1 in 2019
SYRACUSE - Ranked #1 in 2014
PITTSBURGH - Ranked #2 in 2011
NOTRE DAME - Ranked #5 in 2017
MIAMI - Ranked #2 in 2013
VA TECH - Ranked #9 in 2019
CLEMSON - Ranked #12 in 2021
NC STATE - Ranked #6 in 2012
Even teams like Wake Forest achieved a ranking of #1 in 2009, Boston College #3 in 2005, and Georgia Tech #3 in 2005.
Most teams in the ACC have been in the top 10 the past decade, with 11 of the 15 cracking the top 5 in the 2000's. I don't think any other conference has had so many different teams have successful years with national championship potential - yet here we are in 2021.
