What age? And maybe the other team has players getting extra practices?

For example, my son's team will play at U13 this upcoming season. This past season, playing level 2 out of 5 (so decent competition), we generally got destroyed. Only won 1 game, out of 17 played including a couple of tournaments. 2 Years ago, playing level 2 out of 5, most of these same boys against many of these same teams was essentially .500

Our club program, in the fall / winter / early spring practices once a week. Other clubs practice 2 or more. Our club program has volunteer coaches. Some other clubs have paid coaches. The other clubs may have also had a LOT of their players go for training and sessions at various local academy teams, whereas our club only had a few who did that.

So other teams improved a lot, while we only improved a little. Throw in the possible effect of who hits puberty first with a U12 team and things can change quickly.
