Some quick Fall Ball Game observations
As most of you know, Fall Ball games are basically glorified scrimmages that include umpires. It’s a chance for Coaches to see how the players - especially the newcomers - perform in Game-like conditions.
And…it’s just one snapshot in time.
That being said, just a couple of notes from today’s game versus Wingate, a 5-1 Hokies win for those keeping score. The coaches had agreed to play 10 innings to make the trip worthwhile.
The game was a real mix and play situation with a steady stream of Hokies leaving for class and the batting order almost a playground style of “who’s up?” 😂 My scorebook is a total disaster, but that’s okay.
As Coach D’Amour mentioned, the pitchers are ahead of the hitters at the moment. The Hokies did register 10 hits, while the VT pitching combination of Ivy Rosenberry, MacKenzie Osborne, and Emma Lemley limited Wingate to one hit and one unearned run.
Freshman Bre Peck made the most of her first college at bat, blasting a monster shot over the left center field wall.
Freshman Emma Lemley made the quite the splash - pitching 4 innings and striking out 12. That’s correct - every out was a strikeout. She did hit one batter so there is room for improvement 😂
Jenna Pearson registered two base hits - the only Hokie with multiple hits today.
There was a nice crowd for a midday October game and a nice contingent from Wingate.
The Hokies are back in action Friday night at 5:00 versus Shepherd.
Let’s Go Hokies!!!
Here’s a shot of Emma Poppin’ It!
