It's difficult, I think, to separate a player truly regressing from
a player being less productive because of things outside his control.
For example, I'm not sure the evidence suggests HH regressed. But let's say his numbers went down and his productivity dropped. Is that because our coaches made him a worse player? Or is it because as more film got out on him, DCs knew how to attack his weaknesses as a player and it was harder for the coaches to maintain his early productivity now that defenses were adapting to HH's strengths and weaknesses as a player?
I wouldn't call that regression. I'd call that reduced productivity due to stagnation. How much of that stagnation is on the player versus the coaches? Maybe HH just has a ceiling as a QB and there's nothing Corny could've done to get over that plateau. Or maybe Corny isn't very good at developing QBs and that's why HH stagnated.
IMO, we don't have the necessary data to make that determination.
