I lived it

There were a couple indoor meets. We had the old Madison Square Garden track that the track team literally put together ourselves. It had dead spots that you'd hit and just buckle your leg. When football took over the field house in the Spring, the jumping pit was put under the student side at Lane. We had a couple standouts like Jim Stickley (distance) and Phil Saunders (triple jump), but it was pretty much a ragtag group of whatever. I remember the soccer team practicing indoors before the MSG track went up and a teammate's legs knocked out by an errant ball, and he fell and dislocated his shoulder. Most of the non revs were treated like better funded club sports. Remember when the soccer and wrestling coach was the same guy? That was mid to late 80s.
