I think that is shortsighted…

This is long game. We need to be thinking about recruiting, television, location, and the ability to play competitive schedules in the next 25 years. UConn is in the midst of the East Coast and Big Ten territory, and A Texas team places the ACC in one of the hotbeds of college football. And you’ve seen what UCF and the other second-tier Florida teams have done in the past decade. Do you think that other Texas teams won’t be better in the next 10 years… that is short sighted. 10 years ago, we used to laugh at UCF. But now Virginia Tech playing them would be a challenge. There needs to be an ACC team in Texas, in order to drive media in one of the largest football states in the country, and to be able to address recruiting in those areas. In addition West Virginia, if we could convince them to join the ACC, is a no-brainer. West Virginia is logically part of the ACC, based on its big east heritage. Getting them into The ACC, would make both the ACC and West Virginia stronger.

CONN is NOT anything like Duke. Right now we already have four teams in North Carolina, trying to recruit and drive success in the ACC from North Carolina is really kind of silly. The ACC has 4 North Carolina teams, that doesn’t really help our scope and scale in promoting the message, recruiting, and driving the ACC in a wider part of the country. But UCONN places THE ACC in a situation where IT CAN drive recruits not only to UCONN but also into the ACC and drive television revenue from Connecticut and other parts of the eastern seaboard, including New York and New Jersey. And lastly, University of Connecticut, would be a perfect fit within the basketball framework for the ACC.

We lost in Maryland for the same reason. Maybe picking up Connecticut could help the ACC regain some of what we lost when Maryland moved to the Big Ten.

At the end of the day, the ACC needs to aggressively find 3, 4 or five new teams to include in the current batch of conference members. Sitting back and watching, is not going to bode well for the conference.

Not only will it not help, but doing nothing shows a level of complacency, that I think the ACC needs to counteract with an aggressive stance towards adding new teams and making sure that the ACC has the same number of conference members as the other large big conferences.
