Unfortunately, your proposal will not fly for legal reasons.


Given there are currently 10 FBS conferences and you are only giving automatic bids to some of those conferences who have been arbitrarily given the "power conference label," you have just violated antitrust laws. One of the reasons the NCAA DI Playoffs (aka FCS Playoffs) is at 20 or 24 teams is because the playoffs needed to be large enough to give an automatic bid to every DI conference that competes in the FCS subdivision that wanted to compete in the tournament. Currently only the Ivy League, MEAC, and SWAC have chosen not to compete in the NCAA DI Playoffs for various reasons. It also explains why the current format has opted to go with 4 at-large bids.
