You are creating an issue that doesn't exist
ND is not going to go out and schedule all the good teams in the PAC and Big Ten. They would never make any playoffs if they did that because the schedule would be too hard and they would not have a conference championship game as a safety net.
The Alliance is building off of existing relationships and expanding them so that all schools can benefit from some new scheduling.
ND loves the ACC because we fill up almost half their schedule each year.
ACC loves ND because it is a brand name and helps with exposure and tv ratings.
ACC and B10 love each other because of existing basketball partnership, which is growing across football as well.
B10 and PAC love each other because of a long term relationship.
ND and PAC love each other because of a long term relationship.
ACC and PAC have gone on a few dates but still have room to grow.
ND is just one part of this love foursome and they are helping the B10 to connect the ACC with the PAC. An expanded relationship helps everyone. And there are plenty of teams and games to go around. So when discussions go down "what if" rabbit holes, it seems like misplaced energy when the bigger picture is what is relevant to VT.
- New potential opponents
- Greater national exposure
- More big game revenue opportunities
- Potential easier access to playoffs if the Alliance can exert influence
