As long as there is no contract within the Alliance, then I think
it is reasonable to assume that the most desirable members of the 3 conferences could end up benefiting the most from the scheduling philosophy. I think most Hokie fans would agree that if VT were to play a Pac-12 school in a home-home series or neutral site game, then they would rather see VT play USC, Oregon, UDub, UCLA, Stanford, maybe Cal, and maybe the 2 AZ schools over Wazzou, Oregon State, maybe Colorado, and maybe Utah. There is nothing wrong with ACC fans thinking like that just as there is nothing wrong with Pac-12 fans thinking they would rather see their team play Clemson, FSU, Miami, maybe L'ville, and maybe UNC over playing Duke, Wake, Syracuse, Pitt, BC, UVA, and maybe GT.
Even though USC may be "down" right now, it is probably still the marquee opponent in the Pac-12. At least that explains why the conversation shifts between USC and the Pac-12 so much.
