I wish we could just forget about Notre Dame
It's a scheduling arrangement, nothing more. Our problem is revenue. The ACC can fix that problem through 1. reducing the number of ACC schools, 2. locking in more interesting games, and 3. increasing our leverage in TV negotiations.
How do we fix those problems:
1. accept that certain schools will never have a place in modern college football. We can get down to 12 ACC members by acknowledging that BC and Wake need to go, at least for football. Get down to 12 without reducing our TV revenue at all I'd bet.
2. schedule a large number of games with the P12 - home-away for every ACC member every year. Every week should have a marquee ACC-P12 matchup - we have enough quality programs to pull that off.
3. The ACC and P12 need to negotiate as a package deal with the networks. Make it clear that as soon as our current deals expire, the next deal will cover the east and west coasts of the US. It's likely that could spur a new negotiation before the current expirations.
That's about the best we can do. As the two weak sisters of the big four (formerly five), the ACC and P12 have little to lose.
