They have to.....

get those billables, justify potential retainers and supplement their future arguments and positions with advance planning. I think they are largely just fishing and hoping to hook their issue to language the Alliance might have used. I think it is at least arguable whether this helps or hurts their position more as the Alliance conferences and their legal counsel will certainly be attuned in the future to the language they use and the potential for how opposing counsel might try to spin the argument.

As far as the Alliance goes, so far they have issued a press release and held a video conference. Until words translate to actions it is just a lot of conjecture. To repeat what I said in another thread, data point 1 as far as action is probably what takes place at the CFP Management Committee meeting in September. Until, information materializes to clarify, I still believe the Alliance is about the CFP debate and possibly slowing the movement and the 3 conferences signaling that when the NCAA summit takes place in November, and the real horse trading begins as far as reshaping the NCAA landscape, the SEC with their ever increasing football power will not be solely driving the bus. Even after new conference members and astronomical new TV contracts, they will not have an outsized voice compared to the other 3 largest stakeholders.
