I agree there is a real good possibility that the players could end up


forming a union like what you see with the various pro leagues. If the SEC decides to become a minor league in football, then I suspect the players will be paid a salary and they will be allowed to form a union for collective bargaining purposes. Which is why I am curious to see what the fallout would be for the other sports the SEC currently sponsors and/or could add at some point in the future.

The other thing that could be real interesting to see play out is whether the schools could pick and choose which sports the players are allowed to form unions in vs. it being an all or nothing kind of deal. Basically, if the football players are allowed to form a union, then the players for every sport sponsored by a school is allowed to form a union regardless if the players are on salary or not. I am thinking of a scenario where football and maybe basketball are the only sports where the players are on a salary. If the schools/conferences are not careful in how they proceed, then this could go south real quick for everyone.
