That is the chain of events

I have been predicting since Day One. No one in the ACC, Big Ten or Pac-12 really wants to go too far out on any limb just now. Poking the SEC and ESPN is counter-productive in the long run and there is no real benefit to do so.

The "Alliance" is just a gathering of complainers so far - no ink pens in sight. The only principle action they could take was to NOT schedule the SEC in the future after currently signed contracts with the SEC institutions in all sports run their course. That of course would run through several years and even that could not be agreed too. Few want to make promises that will not being to take effect for 4 years when so much can happen in that time and with nothing signed, there is no guarantee that one of the Alliance members will not change their mind and step into a slot your institution vacated.

In the end this is about money and only money.

Texas and Oklahoma need to leave by July 2022 to make this mess feasible. The exit of two years of media money AND 18 months be dealt with. So far, that 18 months extends every day and will continue to do so until an agreement is met. It can be back dated to July 1 2022, but that is going to mean Texas and Oklahoma pay even more than 2 years of media pay out.

All of that money can go along way from the Big-12 to the AAC in making their buyouts, and they in turn can do the same from the AAC to CUSA and so on. Everyone gets something as the Texas and OKlahoma exit fee trickles down through the G5 conferences.
