explored a bit more. I understand the suggestion that the three conferences could form a cohesive voting block, however it seems they could still get outvoted. Will they be content to just work together and push the same agenda, voting the same and possibly getting outvoted? Or, are they tired enough of the differing approach and priorities of the SEC to insist on establishing their own official governance body. If they are truly wanting to set up their own rules and enforcement it seems that may require a complete break with the SEC, who may refuse to cooperate with the decisions of other conferences. IF the Alliance and SEC end up operating under different rules and different ideas of enforcement, would they be able to participate together in the same league and same championship playoff system? You could never have different divisions in the NFL operating under different guidelines. And, for example, you can't have and SEC teams and Alliance teams competing in the same playoffs when the SEC decides to pay players, expand the number of scholarships, and has different recruiting rules. Either the SEC and Alliance will need to agree on governance issues, or they may end up breaking completely and having their own separate playoffs and champions. So far it sounds like governance issues are a huge priority for the Alliance, and this seems to flow from dissatisfaction with the way the SEC wants to operate.
It is hard to imagine the Alliance being willing to take such an extreme move, but it may be the only way to solve their complaints. Or, perhaps this is just their way to bring the SEC under control. Should be interesting. Personally, I would like to see a complete break and the Alliance set up their own four team playoff, and the Rose Bowl, some history here, could be the championship game. Mostly, I like that because I think it would be very entertaining to watch what happens, plus I think I would work out well for VT. Eventually, I think the four conferences will figure out how to work together.
