We shall have to disagree on the details
As of June 26 2003 the following news article emphatically stated that VT was committed to the Big East and had no intention of moving to the ACC:
https://www.espn.com/ncaa/news/2003/0618/1570063.html
Yet President Steiger knew that the ACC was doing a rush visit the very next morning and within 24 hours he would announce to the college football world that VT had moved to the ACC.
Perhaps we differ on our memory but mine is crystal on this issue. Steiger was on the tube stating that VT was going no where and then on Friday morning, oops, looks like we are.
All of this agreement between the ACC and VT took place on Thursday evening after the rush visit that same day and just about 12 hours before the announcement. Sure sounds like dark of the night bag packing to me.
As for getting others in the ACC. VT could not get itself in. It took Warner and the power of the state to do that. Bit off an error on your part to suggest otherwise.
