If we go with the Alliance playoff idea, we should not do that.

The Orange bowl will have much more credibility with the Big 12 champion (or ND) in it against the ACC champion. I assume the Big 12 would expand to 12 teams or so by picking up the top teams from the AAC (or merge with them, allowing us to pick up WVU). That would yield a conference that separates itself from the G5 pack pretty well, and also covers the missing parts of SEC territory well enough.

At that point, the CFP playoffs would become the Rose bowl with the Pac12 and B1G in it, and the Orange Bowl with the ACC and the Bigger12/ND in it. The winner would play for the Alliance "national" championship. That is a perfect solution, IMO.

If we pick the Big 12 apart, we will be left with the MWC or the AAC champ or ND mostly. Not nearly as appealing in the Orange Bowl.
