I think one of the biggest myths stated is vaccines will end the pandemic..
First, I could be completely wrong and hopefully I am. But, it's never made logical sense to me that one should get vaccinated "to do your part to end the pandemic". It's a false narrative that needs to end. It's doesn't help and adds lots of fuel to the fire of an already polarized country/world.
1. It's a big world and these vaccines were never going to reach every citizen in every country. There's been no plan put in place only hope that it will happen. And, the amount of time it would take to create that volume of vaccines, store them properly in places all countries is probably at least a few years if not longer.
2. Even with the lockdowns in most countries, global travel has continued. When you read about a variant in some far off land, it's only a matter of time before it's reaches the United States. So the US could get to 100% vaccination rate in all that are eligible, some lady from Casablanca travels to see her family with a variant that's vaccine resistant and we're all back to square one.
3. Now we also know these vaccines are also limited. Looking at Israel, Iceland and numerous other countries with high fully vaxxed numbers. They are going through some of their worse outbreaks yet and it's occurring in the vaccinated with serious disease and with much higher frequency that health authorities expected and predicted publicly. Vaccines that were once touted as over 90% effective are now in their 30%. What's going to happen in a few more months, years & beyond?
How could you ever vaccinate the world and end the pandemic with these vaccines? You only have what months?
4. And, if all that isn't enough, something I read recently that I didn't realize or even think about since I'm not biologist or virologist. COVID has crossed the species barrier and in a big way. It's in gorillas, lions, tigers, bears, oh my, white tailed deer, baboons, minks, dogs and who knows how many others. Who is to say the next variant doesn't even come from humans, but comes from one of the thousands of animal species humans interact with.
5. And, then there's the dire warnings I've heard from a few scientists who have now been outcast by their peers for daring to go against the grain. "You should never vaccinate into the middle of a pandemic." There's a variety of issues they warn about that I don't have the background to discuss, but needless to say we should all hope their predictions are wrong.
