The mask, indoor dining bans, stay at home, etc was in place in every community, every state, etc last August when the infection spike began. Some states earlier, some later, but every state spiked at more or less the same rate between Aug and early Jan. Those measures did not work to prevent the spread of the virus. The peak happened and infections bottomed out well before the number of people vaccinated could have an effect and the removal of all of those restrictions did not lead to any increases in cases until the new variant hit.

At the end of the day, this is still a virus that primarily impacts a defined at risk portion of the population. Attempts to stop it across the entire population are no different than trying to stop the tide by building a wall of sand. Focus and resources need to be on protecting those at highest risk and treating the outliers who get it. It's not going away and no edict from some politician is going to change that.
