There is absolutely nothing wrong with the ACC. I think it is far more stable than most here on this board seem to believe and in fact think it could surpass in every way anything the Pac-12 can put together in the near future to be the solid number 3 P5 conference.

Yes, the ACC has the gross in ability to be well-run. The ACCN is a joke and the ESPN based GOR is far too lengthy and harsh to be worth anything that is derived from it. Deal making is not or has not been the ACC forte.

But, on the field and on the court, it has been a slow - far too slow - incline each year after the last.

WVU is becoming a wealthy school. It has always had a self-supporting Athletic Department and in recent years with the the 40+ million Big-12 payouts added to the ~15 million in Tier 3 media rights, the AD has been doing very, very well. Still we are short on some programs, Tennis, Cross Country, Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field. Perplexing.

WVU has transformed from moonshine fueled ragging hillbillies to a rather pleasant crowd of jovial good old buddies with arms outstretched. WVU academics are still lowly regarded because of the mission of WVU mandated by the state to automatically accept any West Virginia high school student with a 2.0 GPA or higher. Of course that group has a HUGE dropout rate which absolutely destroys WVU's academic standing. Other schools with similar academic standings earn their rating through mismanagement. But, WVU is trying to do the best for its uneducated masses gets hit with the whammy stick for doing the right thing. Go figure.

So why do I not want WVU in the ACC?

Bad memories.

WVU has changed, the many fans and even leaders of the various ACC membership have not kept pace with WVU's change and acknowledge it. It would be many, many years before any of those minds were changed and any earned credit given. The concern is that WVU would react to that unwarranted treatment and resort to being what they are thought to be as a defense. You can only do so much with us hillbillies after all, we are new to some of this stuff and the best way to keep us progressing is to recognize the effort and frankly, once WVU was a member it would be as a competitor and not a peer.

WVU fans would be looking up snooty noses for a decade or more to come and frankly, we deserve better than that. We have been treated amazingly well in the Big-12 and accepted with our graces and warts in equal measure and it is from that association we have become a better institution.

While I do miss seeing some of the old rivals on the schedule, honestly, if WVU moved into the ACC it would be like stepping back into the Big East, because the northern tier would become a division of:

Boston College
Louisville
Pittsburgh
Syracuse
Virginia
Virginia Tech
West Virginia

Other than UVA, that is the Old Big East and that is a boring line up after the first year newness wears off.

There are many WVU fans that want to go to the ACC but I think there are many more than are happier in the Big-12. I am.
