I was there

Sitting in the end zone where the rutgers qb dropped the games winning TD

The Hokies led 42-30 at the start of the 4th quarter. Tech QB DeShazo threw an interception with 12 minutes left. The tech defense responded, sacking RU QB Lucas twice, leaving the Scarlet Knights 3rd and 30 on their own 30. Lucas completed a 34 yard pass and a first down. The Hokies were called for roughing the passer, giving rutgers 1st and 10 on the 21. Rutgers switched QBs to Fortay and scored with 9 minutes left. 42-37 Hokies

The Hokies responded with a score of their own, highlighted by a 31 yard rush by mark poindexter, 49-37 with 7:50 left

Rutgers drove 11 plays, 93 yards to make the score 49-44 with 4:19 remaining. On the kickoff, rutgers helps the hokies, interfering on the kickoff and giving tech 1st and 10 on their own 46.

Run the ball and burn clock. We’ve got DeShazo, hebron, Kennedy and poindexter. Kennedy runs left for three, Kennedy runs right for six. Timeout rutgers with 3:31. Bill roth with the play by play. Kennedy goes left, no gain, 4th and 1. Timeout Virginia tech with 2:50 left. Beamer trusts his horses and gives the ball to poindexter up the middle for no gain. Rutgers ball on their 45.

On 2nd and 10, fortay throws and int to Alexander. Hokie ball, 1st and 10 on their 49 with 2:37

1st and 10, Kennedy runs right and is stood up for a two yard loss, timeout Rutgers 2:28. Kennedy rushes up the middle on 2nd and 12. Timeout rutgers 2:21. So some offensive creativity would have been good. At this point, tech has rushed the ball the last six plays for all of ten yards. 3rd and 9, tech sends Kennedy up the middle again for two yards. 4th and 7, tech gets called for delay of game and punts

The scarlet knights get the ball on their 22 with 1:22 left and no timeouts. Rutgers converts 3rd and 4 on their 28. 3rd and 7 on the RU 39, 14 seconds left, Beamer’s calls timeout. Rutgers is chipping away three or four yard a pop, and at this rate rutgers will run out of time. So let’s call timeout and remind our defense to keep doing what is
Working

Rutgers head coach stressed to get downfield with no timeouts is shocked. We
can draw up a play, and a play they did. Fortay hits a receiver downfield, 46 yards, 1st and 10 on the tech 15 with nine seconds. On
2nd and 10, Fortay hits Brantley in the corner of the end zone, 50-49 .

It was a little before 4pm on Halloween. Do you run the same rushing play seven times in the closing minutes to kill the clock? No. Do you call timeout with 14 seconds left when your opponent is out of timeouts? No.

It was a thoroughly mismanaged fourth quarter and Beamer probably should have been fired after it
