No surprise there. If the Nats weren't contenders, it was a safe bet


he'd go to a contender for prospects. The Nats aren't exactly out of it, but they can't exactly string together a streak either to get back in contention. The field is just too crowded.

It's the age old situation in baseball with free agency. Build for the future by unloading somebody that's about to become a free agent, and the recipient will trash the future for an immediate title shot by giving up their future prospects.
