having gone to the A-7 from the RF-4C and the F-4E, and having been an IP in both, I found the transition rather easy. The radar in the A-7 was remarkably similar to the radar in the RF-4C, with great ground mapping capabilities and TFO (terrifying flight overland), as it gave you pitch commands to stay at a certain altitude above the land! The F-4E radar was more air to air oriented. But having operated both from the back seat, I just had to adjust to doing it all from the single front cockpit of the A-7. The biggest transition shift was going from a twin-engine afterburning jet to a single-engine turbofan engine jet, which you alluded to below. All that being said, the cockpit of the A-7 was very ergonomically laid out, and that's coming from an Industrial Engineering graduate of VT!
