One thing reminded me of Starship Troopers. They never learned anything from their early encounters with the aliens, they kept fighting with the same firearms/ammunition that wasn't effective every time they fought them. Why not develop exploding ammunition, or some type of depleted uranium ammunition that would penetrate the alien's bodies.

But by golly they did insert their "global warming" message...lol
