Only two pitchers on the current roster and one of them (Sam Gress) played primarily at shortstop this past season and only threw 7 innings.

The other is sophomore Brooklyn Lucero who threw 32.2 innings with a 3.64 ERA.

It's ironic for me to see Sydney Nester being the portal.

She was a high school star from Carroll County (Frank Beamer territory) who was player of the year in Virginia and a Top 25 recruit nationally. Scot Thomas told me once that he thought she was going to at least visit VT, but instead committed to NC State.

I wonder if she ever second guessed that decision because in her last 4 appearances vs. VT, she threw 7.1 innings and gave up 18 hits and 14 earned runs.
