The obstruction rule.....


is parallel to the block/charge in basketball. Both rules are difficult to enforce in a real time/full speed play and often result in a call that subject to slo mo replay might be enforced differently. I think in the bottom half of the inning had the runner gone for the heart of the plate she would have put the onus on the ump to make the call but, she bailed him out with her line. Not sure what call the ump would have made but, at a minimum, there would have been a spirited debate around consistency of application had he not made the call.
