Yes, for a lot of schools (and I would include VT in that) it is usually pretty cold for the first month to 6 weeks of the season. But these tournaments that are held in the deep south are generally well received by the players and coaches. They enjoy getting out of the cold in their home markets.

AND—perfect example—when VT played up at Syracuse the first weekend of May, it was only in the high 30s for Friday and Saturday (I believe it was about 65-70 in Blacksburg). It was chilly in Blacksburg for the entire Notre Dame series in late April. So you can have cold in some places for most of the season.

So unless you are going to make this a “summer” sport (very difficult to do at the college level), you just have to deal w the cold and keep doing the early season tournaments in places like FL and GA.

I took her comments to be of the “Get off my lawn” variety. I have seen the Michigan coach talk with the press many times and she rarely has anything positive to say. It’s always an excuse, complaint, or something negative. Personally, I hope she retires soon. Now, don’t get me wrong, some of younger coaches are annoying in their own right (and for different reasons), but I think they understand that playing in the winter months is just part of the deal.

So I think we have to deal w the early season cold weather. And we have to deal w games that end at 3am (as we saw last night in OK City). It’s not worth complaining about.
