They could if we go to Quads, just like ND would still play a national

schedule if they join. With 16 each team would only play their 3 other Quad partners and one other Quad of 4. That's only 7 games and still leaves 5 other games to schedule across the country.

PS If we go to a mega merger with 5 in each Quad, you pick up another region in the Southwest, with games in Texas and probably Oklahoma. I know some won't like it, but TV owns college sports and it is not turning back. I hate to say it, but Covid proved you don't have to have a packed stadium to get people to watch on TV. You just need a compelling match up. The ACC lacks compelling match ups because they did not go geographically with their divisions. The SEC and B!G were more geographically focused and it paid off. Phillips doesn't have all the promises to keep to get expansion like Swofford did, he should be able to get back to being brilliant on the basics.
