Yessir to smaller conferences and a return of round robin play.

If I was Czar of college football, I'd return to (with some modifications) seven small conferences: Big Ten, SEC, ACC, Pac-10, SWC, Big 8, and the Big East/old eastern independent football.

7 automatic bids to the CFP, 1 at-large bid (lucky dog). This at large bid could go to an independent, a major conference runner-up, OR a G5 stud.

Having one at large bid allows Notre Dame to stay independent, gives the G5 a possible shot, allows possibly just one great conference runner-up to make it. More importantly, it allows OOC games to still have meaning toward the lucky dog although there would be fewer OOC games (less cupcakes).

This plan also ditches lame neutral site conference title games, which with current division formats, rarely pair the best two teams in the conference (Coastal? LOL.). But in exchange, we get a far better regular season and a better playoff.
