Here's the issue with your "take my chances" notion. It simply doesn't work that way with infectious diseases. You "taking your chances" doesn't just impact you. It impacts anyone who potentially comes in contact with you. If the only risk was to yourself then I'd agree... but that's simply not the case. Your statement that you decision has "no bearing on their life whatsoever" is 100% wrong.

Look at it this way... motorcycle helmets. I'm all for people having the choice to wear one or not. Because that truly does not impact me at all. If you don't wear a helmet I think it's a dumb choice but it's going to be your skull cracked open not mine. On the opposite side let's look at smoking. By your logic you should be able to decide when and where you want to smoke. The problem is your smoking impacts others around you. That's why it's prohibited in most public places now. This virus (and others like it) are similar in that your choice to ignore it could make someone else sick.

So the "let each do what they want to do and let the chips fall where they may" simply doesn't work in a situation like this b/c your actions have consequences for others.
