Saving up for that downpayment is downright impossible for many people. For millenials and Gen Z, that $600 a month student loan payment is what they would have/could have been saving for that down payment.

I have friends that were gifted their down payments by their parents because otherwise, buying would have been unlikely for them for a long time.
