Not the injury itself, but the treatment

Table saw bit my thumb years ago. While that hurt, the trauma center of my brain actually turned the pain way down within an instant. I got the instantaneous pain signal that something horrible just happened, then it all subsided to a moderate ache within maybe a second or two.

But the trip to the ER was a different story. When they cleaned the wound (which was after the morphine, BTW), that is unquestionably the most pain I have ever experienced. That did just about bring me to tears.
