Last night I watched a replay of the incident provided by the NY

local crew (their version of Joe B. and Craig). The one angle I saw it looked like the Ranger player, who was down on the ice (forget his name), was still whacking away at Vanacek's pads before and after the whistle. Also, it appeared that at some point he may have grabbed Wilson's stick when it was underneath his body or he had it secured between his arm and body/armpit and he wouldn't let go of it. I believe that combination is what triggered Wilson's response. Although he may have initially responded to a Ranger player whacking his goalie and then the player's unwillingness to let go of his stick triggered another response. Once the other Ranger player responded to Wilson's action(s), it unfolded from there.

I assume that the NHL came to the conclusion that the 1 Ranger player wasn't an innocent participant and may have even started the chain of events with his behavior. As the chain of events unfolded, the NHL concluded that Wilson did cross over the line with some of his behavior. Hence the fine.
