Rooting guide to upcoming SEC softball regarding regional hosting
The overall problem is the teams reeling on a losing streak finish the season with a not so great opponent in the bottom of the standings. But here is my take on the 8 potential SEC hosts.
Locks: Arkansas, Alabama, Florida
Could probably be more here, but playing it safe.
Pretty close to locks but not quite yet: Mizu and Tennessee
After a midweek DH makeup @Mississippi St for UT, these two schools close the season with each other and don’t see either team sweeping in Knoxville so they remain steady at 4&5 in SEC standings. No way the SEC doesn’t have at least 5 or 6 host schools.
Work left to do: LSU, Kentucky and UGA
LSU has 2 games left with Arkansas today, after losing game 1 Saturday night. If LSU gets swept that could send they reeling a little. However they could rebound hosting a competitive but not great Auburn team coming off being swept at home vs UT. I think LSU doesn’t lay a complete egg and still hosts.
UK closes the season with South Carolina who is 1 game out of the cellar in the SEC. UK has something to play for and therefore should be focused and determined.
UGA is the definition of reeling. After upsetting #1 Oklahoma they’ve lost 6 of 7. Lost 2 of 3 vs UT and just got swept by Bama. However, Georgia gets to play at cellar dweller Mississippi St this upcoming weekend. So the Dawgs have a chance to bounce back. I think this losing streak has eliminated UGA from hosting but a win or 2 from MSU could put the nail in the coffin.
