Four is perfect for me. There are usually only three or four contenders.


I'm happy with a four team playoff. Per the link below, most of the semifinal games are lopsided. I interpret that to mean that there aren't usually four contenders but it could mean that good teams are left out of the playoff. During most years, there might be an undefeated team that claims to be the champion but they usually play a weak schedule.
