That's the main connection. Secondarily, it's because he's from Gate City, a relatively small town that's sent many kids to star at Tech in football. You don't see many kids from Gate City become productive starters in basketball at high-level D1 NCAA schools. Thirdly (or maybe higher for some folks, I have no idea), he's a white kid who's a shade over 6 feet tall but can jump out of the gym and just dunks all over people like he's on the Globetrotters. You just don't see that every day either. It's pretty much that combo of elements that generates the interest.
